Provider Conference: Safeguarding the adults in your care 2018

Our Provider Conference held on the 9th October 2018 was a great success!

Attended by 102 people representing care and nursing homes, domiciliary care agencies and providers that support adults at risk in the community as well as, NHS Thurrock CCG, Thurrock Council, Essex Police and many other partner agencies.

Thank you for your encouragement and support in making this event useful and thought provoking.

Our first guest speaker was Anna Volkmer, a highly specialist Speech & Language Therapist, Committee Member for NICE Guideline Decision-Making & Mental Capacity, and NIHR Doctoral Research Fellow. She spoke about The Mental Capacity Act and Implementing the Act in the real world.

Next was Andre Turner, A Watch Manager with the Essex County Fire & Rescue Service. He spoke about the dangers of emollients and their fire risk.

Our 3rd Speaker was Caroline Theodoure, Locality Manager for Skills for Care. Her speech gave advice on recruitment, workforce development and training within the Adult Care Sector and encouraged colleagues to apply for the Workforce Development Fund.

A Guild to Adult Safeguarding for Social Care Providers

Next was Liana Kotze, Adult Safeguarding Team Manager of Thurrock Council. She spoke about what adult safeguarding is, and gave different scenarios that happen in Adult Social Care and the right way to deal with these to achieve the best outcome available to each individual case.

Lastly Dr Afifa Qazi, Consultant Psychiatrist for NELFT discussed symptoms of dementia and gave a snapshot of Managing the complexities around Dementia Care. Her speech included real life issues, that are happening in our Care Homes/lives daily and thanked colleagues in the sector for their commitment to such a difficult job.
