The National Rural Crime Network (NRCN), supported by seven Police, Fire and Commissioners, has funded and published a report detailing the experiences of female and male victims of domestic abuse in rural areas:
• Durham, Derbyshire, Devon and Cornwall, Dorset, Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire
The report fills a gap in our knowledge about the experience of domestic abuse in rural settings, and sets out a picture that states that rural victims experience abuse for longer, therefore with increased risk, face a greater degree of isolation and experience barriers to disclosure and leaving the abuse that are unique to a rural setting, for example lack of local services, transport, and the close knit nature of the local community.
