Vulnerable adults are often affected by alcohol, whether as heavy drinkers themselves or through the negative effects of someone else’s drinking. This research ascertains
the extent to which alcohol features in SARs in England and seeks to identify:

• the role alcohol plays in such cases
• the factors which impede or assist care
• lessons learned

This research is based on SARs published in 2017, in which alcohol was identified as playing a significant role in either the life of the individual concerned or the specific events
surrounding their death.
